Improved stoves
Households in Karatu District have not had access to appropriate alternatives to the traditional 3-stone fireplace. It was therefore an important element in the project to develop an appropriate alternative in form of an improved stove, to get this stove build and tested practically in a number of households.
There should also be developed a local capacity to build and distribute the stove to the households.
Criteria for the stove
If a stove shall be a real alternative it must fulfil some criteria. You can read about these criteria her.

Distribution of stove to the households

Survey of firewood consumption
To get accurate information of the firewood savings, there can be achieved by using the new KDA stove; we carried out a household survey of the firewood consumption. You can here read about the survey and its results.
Test of stoves
To get data of the efficiency of the stove and the emissions of green house gasses we have carried out some test of the stoves. You can here read about these test and the results from the test.
